This is a highly contemporary home located on Cooper Mountain. We faced several challenges with this site that had to be addressed; the steep slope and the deed restrictions. There are some amazing northern views of the valley, however due to the property's height constraints, we had to build into the slope in order to take advantage of these sightlines. We used a flat roof system with parapet walls, not a common detail found on homes in the Pacific Northwest, and went with a neutral material palette of weathered cedar, black details, and shou sugi ban, as well as some warmer wood accents accomplished by western red cedar. At the front entrance, we have a courtyard with a large custom stormwater planter, creating a buffer between the top of the slope and the entry, and providing a means to deal with stormwater runoff.
